Eugene Monahan R.I.P – Sarsfields stalwart Eugene Monaghan was laid to rest recently. A native of Loughrea, Co. Galway, Eugene was an outstanding all-round sportsman, capturing County hurling and football medals with Glen Rovers and Garda respectively. However, it was the starring role he played in Sarsfields 1951 first ever County title success that assured Eugene his place in the annals of Sarsfields History. His scoring and industrious display in the final v Glen Rovers, was reputed to be his finest in the Sars jersey. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.
