Sarsfields U10 had a great day out at the Fran Maher Hurling Tournament in St. Mary’s Clonmel on Saturday 24/08/2013. This was the 3rd Annual event with 16 clubs representing the counties of Clare, Dublin, Galway, Limerick, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Waterford, Wexford.
Sarsfields joined local neighbour Erin’s Own to represent the County of Cork.
Sarsfields were drawn in a group consisting of Sixmilebridge – Clare, St Mary’s – Clonmel and Graigue Ballycallan – Kilkenny.
Although playing well throughout the the group stages they just fell short to Sixmilebridge (the ultimate winners) and finished group runners up.
This meant they were drawn to play in a Semi-Final with the runners up of the other 3 Groups.
In the semi-final they overcame Buffer Alleys of Wexford to challenge for the Sean Walsh Shield against Clarinbridge of Galway who overcame Ballyboden St Endas, Dublin in the opposite semi-final.
In a close and tight game at the final whistle the Sean Walsh Shield was coming south to Riverstown.
On returning to the club Marty Fleming the Chairman of the Juvenile Club presented medals to the team.
Many thanks to the players and coaches, parents and families who made the day a success, to Marty Fleming for presenting the medals and for the hosts St.Mary’s Clonmel for organising a wonderful tournament.
